We were approached by Network Rail with a scope of works for repairs and restoration to the iconic Holmes Chapel Viaduct which carries the Crewe – Stockport line over the River Dane.
It was a huge undertaking due to the sheer scale of the site, but we are experienced in working on large infrastructure projects such as this.
Project Detail
The Twemlow is a Grade 2 listed viaduct and we were approached due to our extensive restoration experience with both brick and sandstone.
The viaduct was built in 1841 and consists of 23 semi-circular arches, each with a span of 18 metres with a plain stone parapet. The repairs that were undertaken by our team included re-casing using sweeps and T’s and repointing and pinning works. We used cherry pickers and mobile elevating work platforms (MEWPs) for access to the viaduct so that we could safely carry out the work required.
The job took nearly 5 months to complete in total and means the viaduct will be secure and stable for years to come.
